Sticky Notes on your desktop can be a useful reminder for things you still have to do. To get Sticky Notes working in Windows Server 2008 R2 you have to install it first using the following installer. The files are extracted from the Windows 7 x64 MSDN DVD and the slc.dll file is created by msft.guy.

1. Download sticky_notes.zip (293 KB) from win2008r2workstation.

2. After downloading the zip extract the zip, run install.cmd as an Administrator and follow the instructions on the screen.
Extract sticky_notes.zip and run install.cmd

3. Enjoy the Sticky Notes on your desktop!

Hello, I wanted to let you know that following this procedure, when I click on the start bar and then on the arrow next to sticky notes, and then click on the New Task that shows up, I get an error… any ideas?

Full uninstall of stickynotes left this Enabled in startup
    Key – HKCU:Run
    Program- RESTART_STICKY_NOTES
    File – C:\Users\[user]\Downloads\stickynotes\x64\Sticky Notes\StikyNot.exe

I disabled this, rebooted, and then installed stickynotes again. Sticky Notes worked. I then went and Enabled that startup program again, rebooted again, and stickynotes works now.

    Not sure what happened.

    In case it helps someone…
I opened a command prompt in my c:\users\\ folder and tried to run the .cmd file from there which resulted in the “File not found” errors similar to klebs above.
I changed directory to the location where I unpacked the .zip contents (where the .cmd file was), and it worked great!
    Thanks for this fix!

Just use one of these apps:
    http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/stickies/
    http://www.greeneclipse.com/stickypad.html

Both run fine and do their job .. so why use StickyNotes?
