If you get an error like You will need to install DirectX #.# to run #. when starting a game, you probably need to install the Microsoft DirectMusic Core Services to get the game working. An example of a game which needs this patch is Grand Theft Auto 2. The .dll and .mui files are extracted from the MSDN dvd of Windows 7 x64. dmusic.inf is taken from DirectX.cab of the DirectX 9.0c Redistributable.
1. Download dmusic.zip (555 KB) from win2008r2workstation.
Continue to install the Game Controllers Control Panel applet…

could you not just install the latest DirectX? I have done this and dont seem to have an issue with games that use DirectX…
But maybe im missing games that are special to this issue?
The error when installing as administrator was:
File not found – System32
File not found – SysWOW64
Arris: Make sure you first extract the zip and not run the .cmd directly from the zip. Also, verify the signature of the file which can be checked by hovering over the filename at this page.
Windows Server 2008 R2 (i.e. Win7 Server) does not have the WOW64 subsystem, by default, although it is an optional component you can install.

lol… what?
WOW64 subsystem is always installed. It is not an optional component.
In Windows Server 2008 R2, WoW64 is really an optional feature.

WoW64 is only an optional feature in a Server Core installation. That’s the “command line only” kind of configuration used in a high security environment, not the kind of system you can convert into a desktop using the instructions on this site.
im using whs 2011 and i know this patch fucks up virtual audio cable
